Starting in December 2019, a small group of individuals got together who valued sustainability, circular economy, natural resources, locally grown food and empowerment of women and communities.
At this first meeting, we realized Lombok had many talented artisans who also embraced these values, but who had no outlet to share their traditional hand skills. We also realized that, in some cases, these valuable crafts were slowly disappearing through the generations. Then, we added the fact that after Lombok was hit with a devastating earthquake, many people also lost their jobs in tourism.
To the founding members of LEFM, however, we saw these obstacles as an opportunity to inspire people to get back to nature and use resources that could be easily sustained and made into handmade products. We saw an opening to create new ways for locals to earn income. We also saw an opportunity to help clean up our island.
This was the beginning of the first LEFM Pop-Up Market.
We organized the first LEFM Pop-Up Market to allow small communities to sell their products and continue working with natural resources – bamboo, rattan, coconut, loofah and more. We created an initiative to raise awareness about how important skills and knowledge can be for the future, as well as our environment. We created the start of an island-wide movement with the first-ever event that showcased eco-products of Lombok.
Find us all around Lombok and explore our beautiful island.
Events are organized all around Lombok so that we can support the economy in all regions – Senggigi, Gili Trawangan, Mangsit, Mataram, Kuta Lombok, Selong Belanak – and are very well accepted with local and tourist communities. Each event has up to 1000 visitors and brings the economy of Lombok up for around 70.000.000 IDR of income in total per event.
In addition, with our commitment to the environment, our vendors are forbidden to use plastic packaging and all need to follow criteria for their field of work. We try to be different from regular markets with high attention for the environmentally-friendly event.
